Big Bad Wolf: The Wolf’s Revenge Construction Timeline & Background

Construction started last fall as land was prepped in the Oktoberfest area of the Williamsburg, Virginia, park. The coaster is being built on the former site of Drachen Fire, which was a problematic coaster of the parks past. It was only open for 6 years, opening on April 3, 1992, and closing in July of 1998.

Big Bad Wolf: The Wolf’s Revenge is actually a part of more park lore as well, as the name is based on a past roller coaster in the park: Big Bad Wolf. This coaster was manufactured by Arrow Dynamics and was a suspended coaster model. Open from 1984 to 2009 it is well known from many older park goers at Busch. Verbolten replaced it in the Oktoberfest area of the park in 2012.

The new coaster will utilize Drachen Fire’s roller coaster station that was never removed when the ride was destroyed. First work on the attraction was seen there, with the first track being placed in November of 2024.

In early December, the lift hill of the family attraction was completed. More elements of the coaster were also built, including the turnaround.

The last piece of track was placed on January 24th, 2025. Busch Gardens Williamsburg posted a photo marking the occasion on X.

Still more work has yet to be done, even with all of the track in place. The Bavarian Village, located in the back section of the attraction, is still being worked on, and landscaping has been in progress as well.
When Will Big Bad Wolf: The Wolf’s Revenge Open?

The only thing the park has said about this coaster so far is that Big Bag Wolf: The Wolf’s Revenge will open in 2025. There should be previews prior to the opening, but we haven’t heard dates on those yet either.

Currently at Busch Gardens Williamsburg, the park is open on the weekends for its annual Mardi Gras event.

Based on progress of different theming around the attraction, this ride could open around the April timeframe, with previews in late March. That will depend on how quickly United Parks wants this coaster open. Kings Dominion just down the way is opening its own coaster: Rapterra on March 29, 2025.
