Kingda Ka Demolished This Weekend at Six Flags Great Adventure – Photos And Videos of Implosion

This weekend, Kingda Ka is no more. The ride has come down after operating for over 19 years at Six Flags Great Adventure. The roller coaster was manufactured by Intamin and was the tallest and fastest roller coaster at the time of its opening. Over 12 million people rode Kingda Ka during the time the attraction was open.

Kingda Ka Stats:

Location: Six Flags Great Adventure (Jackson Township, New Jersey)

Manufacture: Intamin

Opening Date: 5/21/2005

Closing Date: 11/10/2024

Height: 456 Feet

Top Speed: 128 mph

Video on February 13th from East Coasters shows the construction crew on site rigging the top hat element with explosives. It was not known the exact date the tallest part of the structure will come down, but the permits were initially filed for before February 20th, 2025.

The closure of the attraction was swept under the rug. Six Flags only announced that the ride would be closing after the end of Kingda Ka’s operating season on November 11th. This led to a lot of scrutiny from the fans of the park chain.

UPDATE: Kingda Ka Implosion 2/28/2025

February 28th, 2025 was the last day with the coaster standing. At around 7 a.m. in New Jersey this morning, the kings top hat has fallen.

Kingda Ka was supposed to be demolished about a week ago based on permits, but due to bad weather in the area, the roller coaster clung on a little bit longer.

Photos of the aftermath of the fallen coaster look like it broke into a ton of pieces like a huge Lego set. The landing was perfect with not even a piece landed in the parking lot.

A Six Flags released a statement saying that in 2026, Six Flags Great Adventure will be receiving a record-breaking multi-launch roller coaster. Details of what that coaster will be like have yet to be announced. It is always sad to say goodbye to an old favorite, and here’s to hoping the replacement is a worthy one.
