As you embark on your mission, you’ll be introduced to Buddy, a friendly robot created by Walt Disney Imagineering and Pixar Animation Studios. Buddy will ensure you’re mission-ready with system checks, aiming practice, and words of encouragement before you face the Evil Emperor Zurg.
Major Star Cruiser Ride Vehicle Update Coming
Your ride vehicle, the Star Cruiser, is getting a sleek redesign inspired by Buzz Lightyear and Star Command’s iconic colors. The vehicles are more of a white color with accents throughout .
Each cruiser will now feature video monitors displaying real-time scoring updates, adding a competitive edge to your space battle.
Blaster Update And Enhancements Coming to Star Cruisers
Say goodbye to blasters stuck to ride vehicles! The updated ride will feature handheld blasters (much like the ones at other Disney Parks worldwide) with continuous laser beams, improved lighting, sound, and vibration effects, making it easier to aim and hit targets. This upgrade is especially beneficial for younger recruits, ensuring everyone can join the fight against Zurg.
Targets Also Receiving Major Updates
The traditional “Z” targets are being upgraded to react and light up when hit, providing immediate feedback and a more immersive experience. These changes are welcomed as you’ll be able to see more clearly if you’ve hit the targets or not.
Imagineers and some members of the media have also tested these enhancements. These are all very positive. At most other Disney Parks, they have already received similar updates over the years and Magic Kingdoms has seemingly been more outdated for a while.

Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin will temporarily close in August 2025. No specific date has been given yet, but it is scheduled to reopen in 2026. Be sure to embark on one last mission before the refurbishment begins!
