Big news on Volcano Bay today at Universal Orlando Resort as they have announced that the park will be closed for the fall and winter of next year, and a slew of other changes. Here’s what you need to know:

When Will Universal Volcano Bay Close?
The resort announced the park will close on October 26th, 2026, and re-open no later than March 24th, 2027. This is big news. Volcano Bay, currently known for its intermittent closures in the winter, now will not be open at all, all winter.

Is Universal Worried About Attendance?
The park will have been open for 10 years on May 25th, 2027. That leaves 2 possibilities. For one thing, they could be adding something to the park for its 10th anniversary that we haven’t heard about yet. Much more likely though, is that it will give them time to work on some of the long-term maintenance items. Looking at comparisons from bioreconstruct on X, it is very clear that parts of the park could use a facelift.
As you can see, some of the structures are now faded from years of Florida’s sunlight.
It definitely also could have to do with declining demand. Disney just announced that for the first time since COVID-19, Disney’s Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon both together will be open this summer. Check out our article here. Additionally, Universal Epic Universe likely will shift the perspectives of visitors. Folks that visit Universal for a long weekend (3-4 days) might not opt to visit the park anymore just to save time for Epic Universe.

All of these factors are just a part of the bigger picture. We’re not sure if this will happen again in 2027, but only time will tell.

Universal also announced some shocking news, as they plan to discontinue a lot of their technology built into Volcano Bay, like the Tapu Tapu, on October 1, 2025 of this year. Find more in our article here!
